The Koni Special Active front strut is the line formerly called FSD, which stands for Frequency Selective Damping. It's a factory-style replacement strut. On a Ford Transit 2015, the front strut isn't just a damper: it carries the spring, supports the wheel hub, and holds the steering knuckle in the right place. So the damper choice affects more than ride comfort.
The Special Active valve reacts to how quickly the suspension is moving. Slow body roll gets firm damping, which keeps a tall heavy van stable in corners. A fast hit from a pothole or expansion joint opens the valve and lets the tire absorb the impulse. The result is less crashiness without turning the van into a boat. For a daily driver at stock ride height on reasonable roads, STR.T is the sensible choice. For a Transit that runs loaded on rough pavement every day, I'd spend the extra money on Special Active. 3. What is the purpose of a crankshaft in an engine?
The purpose of a crankshaft is to convert the linear up-and-down motion of the pistons into rotary motion that can drive the wheels. It has offset journals, called throws, that connect to the rods. When combustion pushes a piston down, the rod swings the throw around and the crank turns. Counterweights balance the forces, and the rear flange mounts the flywheel or flexplate. The crank also drives the oil pump and timing chain, so it carries real load beyond the power stroke.
I've inspected crankshafts, but my daily job is closer to the parts around them—main bearing caps, brackets, machined housings. A crankshaft journal can look glossy and brand-new and still be a few ten-thousandths of an inch out of spec. The eye is not a measuring tool.
4. What does a main bearing do in an engine?
A main bearing supports the crankshaft inside the engine block. It's a split plain bearing, not a roller bearing. The per-piece price will be higher than a production run because setup, material certs, and first-article inspection don't shrink with the order quantity. That's not a penalty; that's where cost actually lives.
Looking back at my own career, the vendors who took my small orders seriously are the ones I still trust. A 500-piece pilot order can become a 25,000-piece production order next year. Our current largest account started as a 500-piece prototype run in 2022. I keep that in mind whenever someone sends in a small RFQ. If you have a drawing, send it with a realistic target annual volume. I'd rather quote a pilot number honestly than pretend 500 pieces costs the same as a full production run.
